Genetically speaking, we still live in the bodies of Stone Age humans, for whom movement was vital for survival: walking, running, bending, climbing – everyday movements. The fact that we now spend most of our days sitting was not how nature intended it. And that's precisely what makes us sick.
Therefore, we have made it our mission to bring more movement into your life and thus ensure better health, well-being and overall quality of life.
The genesis of a revolutionary idea
How it all began...
The Aeris story begins in 1990 with a clear realization: movement is good for you – and yet we neglect it far too often these days. That's why, over 30 years ago, Josef Glöckl developed a completely new seating concept with genuine 3D movement: the Aeris Swopper.
After countless prototypes, setbacks, and rejections, Aeris was successfully founded in 1996, and the Swopper appeared on the market as a true world first. The industry was initially skeptical, but the target group was enthusiastic. Today, 30 years later, Aeris is synonymous with active sitting, with products that bring movement to the place where we need it most: while sitting.

The Birth of the Aeris Swopper
2020: The Swopper sports a new look
Twenty-four years after its initial launch, the Aeris Swopper has received a facelift. With a modernized design, expanded fabric and color options, and the choice between a black and a new white frame, it now adapts even better to any style. The spring settings have also been expanded: with the choice between Standard, High, and Low, the seating experience can now be customized even further.

The Aeris family is growing
1996 - 2018
The Aeris Swopper began the seating revolution in 1996. Ten years later, the Aeris Muvman, the first standing chair for active working, followed. Shortly after, two years later, the Swopper was specially developed for children – our Aeris Swoppster. Due to the strong demand for an ergonomic office chair with a backrest, we developed the Aeris 3Dee in 2012. In 2014, the stylish Aeris Oyo rocking chair expanded our portfolio as lounge furniture, and in 2018, with the development of the Aeris Muvmat, the first active standing mat for the workplace, we truly brought movement to working while standing.
2019 - 2025
With the introduction of our Aeris Numo family in 2019, dynamic sitting became a design statement: elegant, flexible, and versatile. In 2020, the Muvman Industry, a sit-stand version specifically designed for sensitive work environments such as laboratories and production facilities, followed. Two years later, we expanded our portfolio with the Aeris Active Office Desk, offering height-adjustable desk furniture. 2023 was all about further development: at the beginning of the year, the Numo Task family, available with a spring base or column, brought new possibilities for dynamic working to the office – complemented by the Numo Comfort family at the end of 2023. Our newest family member, the ergonomic Aeris Linu office and conference chair, launched in 2025, sets new standards for dynamic sitting with its advanced flex kinematics.

When Larry Page and Sergey Brin wrote their first lines of code for Google, they were actually sitting on an Aeris Swopper.
